This is a really simple job that does have significant improvement to the amount of slop up and downwards in the Clutch Lever. you don't even have to alter the clutch cable adjustment to do this job.

All of the components and the new replacement bush are depicted below.

The cost of the bush is A$4.45. it is actually called T2046526 Collar Clutch Lever and is NOT Depicted in any of the Thunderbird Parts books but is also common to other Triumph Motorcycle. ie. Bonneville's, Daytona's, Rocket 3 etc. Don't let the dealers convince you that it is not available.

1: With a 10mm socket remove the Clutch Lever Pivot Bolt and push it upwards out of the Handlebar Housing.

2: Making sure the cable slot in the adjusting bolt if facing forwards, remove the lever from the housing and then while flipping the lever over remove the cable from the lever.

3: Push the bush with you finger out of the housing and then clean all the components up with some Brake Kleen or similar solvent.Check the pivot bolt to see that there is no significant wear and then lube up the new bush and the pivot bolt with some multipurpose grease and by hand push the new bush back into the lever and reassemble the lever and cable back into the bike ensuring that the pivot bolt is tight.

4: Finally check the Clutch Adjustment, and give yaself a pat on the back for accomplishing such and easy task.

Big thanks to the "Dumb Ol Pollock" ( Davetac1) that put us onto the availability of the tiny bushing.

I believe it is,but the brake doesn't get used any wheres near as much that clutch does.At over 110,000 miles,my brake lever and bushing are still original, with hardly any any slope in em.But I've been thru atleast,a half dozen clutch bushings and two clutch levers over that 110,000 miles. And you're welcome Gerry!! Dave!!!

wow half a dozen bushes and two clutch levers I know you have done some miles but I'm still on the original lever and bush and it only has a small amount of play at 130000kms

The clutch lever and bushing wear ,obviously, depends on how much you use the clutch.I use mine all the time, using the gears and motor to slow the machine, instead of wearing on the brake pads and rotors,so I'm constantly up and down shifting. And then,it also depends on how many open roads you run on.For example:All highway running,or wide open back roads, will wear less on everything, but around town,in traffic, and or on thickly settled back roads,I'm again, constantly up and down shifting which wears on the bushing and the lever. However,my cable, which is still original, gets lubed, religiously, the first of every month. That's how I set up my schedule so I don't forget to do it.

And believe it or not,the lever and or bushing, are a lot easier to replace, not to mention cheaper, then brake pads and or rotors. Dave!!!

I've got 25k miles on my '11 Storm, and need to do this. Clutch lever "buzzes" at certain RPMs, and wobbles a good bit by hand. Just haven't gotten to it, yet. Plenty of winter downtime coming, so it's on my list.

there is actually a post somewhere, when i find it i will put it here where a guy replaced them with decent bearing bushings that will not wear out like these soft copper things. The biggest factor is the angle at which you are pulling on the levers. If its not straight back (in line with bar and lever) then these will always wear out quick. Mine is so sloppy its ridiculous.

The bushings are actually brass, and when ya put em in,you're supposed to APPLY GREASE on both ,the inner and outer sides of the bushing itself, the bolt that passes thru it,and both outer sides of the lever itself where it fits into and pivots in the housing on the bars. Then just wipe the excess off.I think you'll discover that the bushing, lever and bolt will last a lot longer. And as I posted earlier,I do use my clutch "A LOT",and only have to replace the bushing every year or so,and the lever every couple years. But, I also liberally apply grease to those items I mentioned when I change em,and it works!!
